Manipur: Security Forces Recover More Arms And Ammunition During Search Operation In Imphal

Amidst a backdrop of turmoil, security forces have embarked on a determined effort to restore order in Manipur, unearthing a cache of eight firearms and 112 rounds of ammunition across multiple districts recently plagued by violence. Alongside these recoveries, six explosives were also confiscated.

In a synchronized operation on Wednesday, districts including Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, and Imphal West witnessed the retrieval of these illicit arms. The statement issued by the police highlighted the prevailing tension, marked by sporadic episodes of gunfire and gatherings of protesters, underscoring the gravity of the challenges faced, as reported by PTI.

The security forces' efforts extended to the strategic dismantling of six bunkers within Tengnoupal district. However, the situation's complexity became evident with the recent arrest of four individuals from Assam in the Mantripukhri area of Imphal East district. These individuals were found in possession of a staggering 1,240 bottles of syrups containing codeine phosphate, a potent opioid analgesic.

The arrests was conducted by officers of the Narcotics & Affairs of Border (NAB) on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, massive landslides, triggered by relentless monsoon rains, have paralyzed Manipur's Noney district. The critical Imphal-Silchar highway remains blocked, leaving over 500 goods vehicles stranded and raising concerns about the supply of essential items in the violence-affected state. Efforts to clear the route are underway amidst the state's ongoing challenges with ethnic clashes, emphasizing the urgent need for relief and effective disaster management.
