MPs also seem to have their favourite scrips. Hence, unlike the savvy investors, they don’t hedge their bets and tend to put all (or most of) their eggs in a single basket. Consider the case of the bjp MP Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo who’s majorly invested in the Reliance group (Reliance Industries and Larsen & Toubro). Or Jasubhai Barad, the Congress MP from Gujarat, who seems to have a great liking for the Birla group, especially the AV Birla faction. Some of these parliamentarians also seek sectoral exposures and invest heavily in areas such as tobacco, liquor and petro-products. What we don’t know, and can’t say, is whether these politicians allow their investments to interfere with their work as policymakers. Wait and watch this space!
