Intelligence inputs discussed at the meeting of CMs of Naxal-affected states say the CPI(ML) has plans to set up base in the Satyamangalam forests from where Veerappan operated. The Naxals already have a strong base in the Dandakaranya forests spanning Chhattisgarh, Orissa, AP and MP. Since activity has also been detected in Karnataka, the feedback is it will only be natural for them to move into the thick Satyamangalam forests from where they will have access to TN, Kerala and Karnataka. The Union home ministry has already issued an intelligence alert to the affected states. A ministry official said if the Naxals succeed in establishing themselves in Veerappan territory, it will be an uphill task for security officials to keep them in check.
