The leader of the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party showcased her remorse during a press conference over the death of children during the ongoing conflict.

Mehbooba Mufti press conference

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti showcased remorse during a press conference on Friday over the death of children during the ongoing conflict. Mehbooba broke into tears urging to exercise restraint, claiming, “Casualties on the borders are deeply unfortunate. What is the fault of innocent children who have lost their lives?

“Immediate restraint and de-escalation are the need of the hour. It is crucial to apply wisdom in handling the present situation,” she added further.

The former CM mentioned that incidents like Pulwama and the Pahalgam terror attack have far reaching implications and brought the country on the verge of a "catastrophe".

"I saw twins playing at one moment and saw their bodies soaked in blood the next. What is the fault of these children and women who are simply getting caught in the crossfire?" she said.

She asserted that this is the kids' age to play and for how long will the people of Kashmir, especially those living in the border areas, suffer.  “For how long will our mothers' laps go empty?,” she asked.

Her remarks mentioned that military actions treat symptoms and not address the root cause.

These comments came in light of Pakistan’s offensive leading to Indian army’s retaliation on Thursday night. Pakistan attacked India with drones and missiles in areas of Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat. According to the defence ministry, all threats were neutralised with swift action.
