Manipur: Retired Army Officer Terms State As 'War-ravaged Syria', Sends Out SOS Message

In his tweet, Lt Gen (Retd) L Nishikanta Singh said, 'It appears Manipur has been left to stew in its own juice. Is anyone listening?'. Retweeting his post, former Army chief Ved Prakash Malik called it an 'extraordinary sad call'

As communal tension continues to escalate in the northeastern state of Manipur even after a month and a half,  a retired top Army officer yesterday tweeted the dire state of affairs.

In his tweet, he compared the situation in his state with that of war-ravaged Libya, Lebanon and Syria.

His Twitter bio suggests that he served the Indian armed forces for 40 years.

The tweet has gone viral.

"I'm just an ordinary Indian from Manipur living a retired life. The state is now 'stateless'. Life and property can be destroyed anytime by anyone, just like in Libya, Lebanon, Nigeria, Syria, etc," tweeted Lt Gen (Retd) L Nishikanta Singh.

"It appears Manipur has been left to stew in its own juice. Is anyone listening?" asks the former Lieutenant General.

Former Army chief Ved Prakash Malik retweeted Singh's post and said, "An extraordinary sad call from a retired Lt Gen from Manipur. Law & order situation in Manipur needs urgent attention at highest level."

He also tagged PM Modi, Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh in his tweet.

As the ethnic clashes continue in Manipur, so far over a hundred people have been killed.

The violence erupted after a Tribal Solidarity March against the demand by the Imphal Valley-based Meitei community to be included in the Scheduled Tribes category.
