The Karnataka stalemate on government formation continues even though a week has passed after results were declared. While the JD(S) and the Congress are yet to choose from the so-called J&K and Maharashtra models of power-sharing, the Orissa model—which in this case would mean a cautious tying up by the JD(S) with the BJP—is also being suggested. Meanwhile, the list of chief ministerial aspirants has stabilised at five: Congress’ OBC leader and seven-time mla Dharam Singh and outgoing agriculture minister H.K. Patil, and JD(S)’ Kuruba leader Siddaramaiah, the cultured M.P. Prakash and the enterprising P.G.R. Sindhia.
