Newly appointed J&K governor Satya Pal Malik has posted B Srinivas as the new additional director general of the police (ADGP), CID, replacing AG Mir.
J&K: B Srinivas Replaces AG Mir As ADGP CID, Other Tranfers On The Cards
Senior officials told Outlook that nothing much should be read into the transfer as it was on the expected lines
“Dr Srinivas will replace AG Mir as ADGP CID,” a government order said. According to the order, Mir has been posted as the ADGP Headquarters against an available vacancy.
The sources say a proposal in this regard was moved a few days ago and the transfer was in effect from Tuesday. Senior officials told Outlook that nothing much should be read into the transfer as it was on the expected lines, since Mir had completed his tenure and Srinivas would have replaced him. The governor will chair a State Advisory Council meeting in Srinagar on Wednesday.
The sources said the government was not happy with the decision of releasing Naikoo’s father and would take some policy decisions at the meeting.
However, A Bharat Bhushan Babu of the PIB MHA, on Tuesdaytweeted: “MHA has denied reports that it is unhappy with Jammu & Kashmir police. On more than one occasion, MHA has commended the work done by J&K police and the valiant sacrifices made by the men & officers of J&K police. There is no question of any dissatisfaction.”
The transfer has come in the wake of militants releasing 11 family members of policemen after the cops set free Hizbul Mujahideen operational commander Riyaz Naikoo’s father Asadullah Naikoo. Sources said the incident might have accelerated the transfer.
On last Thursday, the police picked Asadullah from his Awantipora home in south Kashmir, a day after militants killed four policemen in Shopian, around 60 km south of Srinagar. In retaliation, onThursday night militants abducted 11 family members of the policemen from villages of Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian districts of south Kashmir, and released them on Friday hours after the police set Naikoo’s father free. The police had said Asadullah was called for questioning and released.
Later, in an audio message Riyaz warned the police of dangerous consequences if the relatives of militants are not released.
The group has also released videos of some of the captives on social media before their release, who claimed, they were kidnapped following the attacks on the houses of militants and their families by the army, Special Operation Group of Police and the police.
