International Yoga Day: PM Modi's Yoga Session At UN Headquarters, Theme, History, Significance; All You Need To Know

The United Nations recognised Yoga as an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. Recognising its universal appeal, the United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in December 2014.

In a historic celebration to commemorate the 9th International Day of Yoga Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to lead a unique yoga session today at the UN Headquarters that will see participation from top UN officials, envoys from across and the world and prominent individuals.

"Landed in New York City. Looking forward to the programmes here including interaction with thought leaders and the Yoga Day programme tomorrow, 21st June," Prime Minister Modi tweeted yesterday.

International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on June 21.

The draft UNGA resolution establishing the International Day of Yoga was proposed by India and endorsed by a record 175 member states.
