'If It Were China, They Would Have Settled It With One Bullet In His Head'

So said the former defence minister in the press-release issued on the Indo-US nuke deal, prefacing it with: 'the prime minister of the country has betrayed the nation by continuous bluffing

What some of us knew was bound to happen has happened. The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has over the years been keeping with himself what he thought was his big secret-- a secret between himself and Bush, which has now come in the open. That was bad enough. What is worse and deserves to be condemned is that on 13th April 2007 he continued to play the ABC game with Members of Parliament in his very lengthy speech. The Americans chose to make a monkey of our prime minister by using the 60th birthday of India to spill the beans and the deals. Parliament took up this issue today in both Houses.

On various occasions, members of both Houses do not allow the House to function, essentially on problems of the people on which the government had taken no decisions or in situations when the ruling party has chosen to block the members of the Opposition from having their say. Today was different. The House adjourned twice this morning with the opposition members asking for an immediate debate on the situation that has developed, with the speaker refusing to allow it as demanded, that is, by doing away with the Question Hour.

This is no subject for a debate. What has emerged is that the prime minister of the country has betrayed the nation by continuous bluffing, something unbecoming of the head of the government. If it were the United States, their House would have thrown out and disgraced the president if he had acted as Manmohan Singh. If it were China, they would have settled it with one bullet in his head. After what he has done he has neither the moral nor political right to remain in his position. His resignation should be demanded forthwith. If Bush had not spilled the beans everyone in the country and specially those who have the responsibility of being ever prepared to defend the country would be going into action with nothing that could take on the enemy. It would have been like what Pandit Nehru did when China invaded India. He ordered the armed forces "to throw out" the enemy with no capability to fight back and India lost 3,000 of its sons and also lost its face throughout the world. A repeat of that is what the prime minister is preparing for the future.

What Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has succeeded in doing is to strip our armed forces of the strength that was created by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government along with the support of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

I appeal to all my colleagues in Parliament not to think of the next elections and think how it would impinge on their result for them. What the prime minister has done is to keep the entire country and the armed forces to believe that he has done a good job to see that the country is safe with his government.

No, Mr Prime Minister, you have taken the country to the precipice where the nation’s security is concerned. The best thing for you is to put in your papers. All that you have succeeded in doing in this matter is to undo what the NDA government did.
