Since they seek help they also have to help when it comes to fixing the police. Dawood had very high-ranking friends. He was a major smuggler and he had a lot of money. So he had many friends. Kalpnath Rai was his friend. Murli Deora is said to have used his support. Then there are others. All top politicians.
On police links with the gangs: They often work together although after the bomb blasts the police is far more careful. But police stations have been 'managed' (underworld parlance for paying off the police station in the area where a crime is to be committed) and huge sums of money—lakhs—are paid and the police turns a blind eye. This often happens with supari killings. This was very much there doing Dawood's time. Also, Dawood would organise encounters between the police and his rivals. On future plans: I will do social work. I have made enough money from my matka and bootlegging dhanda to see me through. So I don't have to work anymore. That's why I want to dedicate myself to working for the people of my area.
