- Keshubhai Patel, the most powerful of Gujarat BJP leaders, is sulking. He has turned down a Union cabinet berth because he wants to remain in reckoning in Ahmedabad. He has also refused to take over as the president of the state unit;
- BJP Gujarat chief Rajindersinh Rana is dead against Modi, mainly because the new CM had proposed sweeping changes within the organisation after taking over. He had suggested that Rana be removed along with vice-president Suresh Gandhi and general secretary Nalin Bhatt, both said to be close to Keshubhai;
- Modi is barely on talking terms with some of his cabinet colleagues like revenue minister Haren Pandya;
- Industry minister Suresh Mehta, the number two in the Gujarat cabinet, is one of the most vocal members in the state cabinet and has publicly censured the government's role during the riots.
