Facts About Milind Deora, Former Minister Who Resigned From Congress 

Milind Deora, a prominent Congress leader and former Union minister,  declared his resignation from the primary membership of the party today. This decision marks the end of his family's 50-year association with the Congress. 

Here are some facts about Milind Deora

• From 2012 to 2014, Milind Deora held the position of Union Minister of State for Communications, Information Technology, and Shipping under the Congress banner.
• Being one of the youngest members of the 15th Lok Sabha, Deora entered politics at the age of 27. The son of Congress veteran Murli Deora, he achieved victories in the Mumbai South seat during the 2004 and 2009 elections. However, subsequent contests in 2014 and 2019 saw him finish as the first runner-up against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant.
• Born in Bombay (present-day Mumbai), Milind Deora earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Questrom School of Business at Boston University. Before entering politics, Milind worked in the private sector in the United States and India. He also established one of India’s first digital public-private partnerships to provide economically underprivileged students free access to Information Technology-enabled education.
• Deora also served as the President of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee. He resigned from the position of Mumbai Congress party president in 2019.
• Post his government tenure in 2014, Milind joined the boards of Arctic Circle (Iceland), Boston University, and the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (Washington DC). Despite stepping away from government roles, he remains politically engaged through his association with the Indian National Congress, participating in televised debates, contributing op-eds to major newspapers and over 1.7 million followers on Twitter.
