Carcass Of Elephant Calf Found In Odisha's Mayurbhanj

In a distressing discovery, the carcass of an elephant calf was found in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district. The calf was found in the Asanbani Reserve Forest area of Betnoti Range, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled for Tuesday. The area had recently been home to a herd of about 22 elephants from West Bengal, who had left the area on April 15, and the carcass was found by forest staff during their routine patrol.

The carcass was found in Asanbani Reserve Forest area of Betnoti Range in Baripada Forest Division on Monday. "Post mortem of the recovered carcass will be done on Tuesday," the senior official said.

A herd of about 22 elephants from West Bengal was staying in the forest for a brief time, then they left the area on April 15. The carcass was found by forest staff while patrolling the area, he said.
