Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das demands that the Union Government include the 1975 Emergency in school curriculums. Das's remarks come on June 25, 2025, the 50th of the Indira Gandhi-imposed Emergency of 1975.

Recalling his own experience as a student who was detained during the Emergency, Das said, “On that night, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, in sheer lust for power, trampled the Constitution and turned the entire country into a prison,”  slamming the Congress.

Das was speaking at a press conference held by the BJP as part of the Emergency public awareness campaign.

The BJP's nationwide public awareness campaign was launched to commiserate 50 years since the imposition of Emergency. Others who were present at the press meet included Jamshedpur Mahanagar President Sudhanshu Ojha, former district president and co-speaker Abhay Singh, state campaign co-coordinator Jatashankar Pandey, district vice president and program coordinator Babua Singh, media in-charge Prem Jha and co-media in-charge Akhil Singh.

During the event, Das claimed that Congress had no moral right to speak on democracy, having once been responsible for its brutal suppression, referring to Indra Gandhi’s Emergency.

“The Congress, in its greed for power, turned the entire country into a prison on the night of June 25, 1975. The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi trampled on the Constitution and silenced all voices of dissent,” said Das.

Furthering his point, the former CM urged the Central Government to include education on the Emergency and the events between 1975-1977 in school curriculums. He emphasised that this addition is critical for future generations to understand how democracy was compromised in the past and develop a holistic understanding of India’s politics.
