Bihar Government Suspends Social Media In Kaimur District Amid Muharram Clash

Suspending social media communication until August 1, the authorities aim to prevent the spread of harmful content and restore peace following the incident.

In response to a clash between members of two communities during Muharram processions in Kaimur district, Bihar, the state government has taken a unique measure to maintain public order. On Sunday, the Bihar government suspended transmission of messages through social networking sites in the district until August 1, according to a notification issued by the state home department, as reported by PTI.

The decision came after concerns about anti-social elements exploiting social media platforms to spread objectionable content, incite violence, and disrupt peace and tranquillity. The suspension aims to prevent the spread of rumors and disaffection among the public, safeguarding life and property.

The clash erupted during a "Taziya" procession crossing Ekta Chowk in Bhabhua, the district's headquarters, prompting the district magistrate and superintendent of police to take immediate action. Thankfully, the situation is now under control, and the district police are diligently analyzing CCTV and drone footage to identify trouble-makers involved in the incident.
