The party has peaked in strongholds like Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, MP and Karnataka. Tally in these states can only go down in the next general elections.
Early polls are not welcome as they are likely to be held along with assembly elections in three BJP-ruled states- where anti-incumbency could be a factor.
The numbers of the NDA allies have shrunk and only the JD(U) in Bihar is certain to improve tally; BJP peaked in Orissa in 2004; the Shiv Sena is in turmoil.
Focus is on the price rise issue to help the party's revival in cities and small towns.
Till now, no strong ideological postures by L.K. Advani as there is a need to attract more allies. There's even a buzz about giving outside support to some regional formation.
