There is a feeling among the general public that the war in Afghanistan has lost its way. Bombing is not news any more. Hence the suspicion that military commanders don’t know what to do next . But this couldn’t be farther from the truth. The war will proceed at a pace dictated by its own dynamics, not by the need to attract public attention. What appears to be a slow pace is in itself a testimony to the powerlessness of the Taliban who have no offensive. Nor is the Afghan winter a major issue for ground operations as the allied armies are capable of fighting in Europe which is about 10 degrees colder than Afghanistan.
