The Jamaat-e-Islami is said to be the cause of the present instability in Bangladesh. Many of its leaders are now being tried for alleged crimes committed during the liberation struggle of 1971. There is also a growing mood in the country to isolate and ban the Jamaat. The acting secretary-general of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (BJI), Rafiqul Islam Khan, spoke to Pranay Sharma about the current situation, the organisation and what lies in the coming days.
