Rosalynn Carter Birthday: Former first lady celebrates 96th birthday with former President Jimmy Carter, cupcakes, peanut butter ice cream and butterflies

Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, now 96, celebrates her birthday with husband and ex-President Carter, 98 at home. Amidst cherished family, she delights in cupcakes and peanut butter ice cream, a subtle nod to their roots as Georgia's peanut farming couple.

Rosalynn Carter, who recently turned 96, commemorates her birthday alongside her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, now 98, within the comforts of their Georgia residence, as shared by her organization – Carter Center. Rosalynn intends to indulge in cupcakes and peanut butter ice cream, a charming homage to the couple's roots as peanut farmers in Georgia.

The Carter Center, the human rights institution established by the Carters in Atlanta following his unsuccessful re-election attempt in 1980, stated that Rosalynn's birthday celebration will be a serene affair, graced by the presence of close family members. Additionally, residents of Plains, Georgia, are anticipated to pay tribute to the former first lady's dedicated years of advocating for public health.

Additionally, she plans to set free butterflies within the Carters' garden—a fondness rooted in her early years. Numerous butterfly releases across Plains are scheduled, involving not only extended family and friends but also a release close to Rosalynn’s ancestral abode.

As she marks her birthday, Carters continue to reside in the very same quaint town where they were both born and later married. This town also held a significant role in Jimmy Carter's triumphant 1976 presidential campaign.

Together, they have been blessed with four children, as well as a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

For decades, Rosalynn has championed the cause of mental health, initially advocating for a more inclusive American healthcare system that addresses mental well-being during her husband's tenure as Georgia's governor in the early 1970s. She continued this advocacy during her time in the White House.

She also stresses on the significance of caregivers to the nation's social and economic well-being.

The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers plans to celebrate the ex-first lady's birthday by organizing a screening of a recent movie titled "Unconditional," centered around the difficulties people encounter while providing care for their ailing, elderly, or disabled family members.

Earlier this year, both Rosalynn and the ex-president provided significant updates about their health. In May, the family revealed that the former first lady is battling dementia, and the 39th president decided to cease hospital treatments, opting instead for hospice care in the comfort of his home.
