The Story Of Swarnakamal Jewellers

The Story Of Swarnakamal Jewellers, from humble beginnings in Agartala to becoming Tripura's most trusted jewellery brand. Founded by Mr. Gopal Chandra Nag, Founder and Chairperson of Swarnakamal Jewellers.

Every legacy begins with a dream born out of struggle.
For Mr. Gopal Chandra Nag, Founder and Chairperson of Swarnakamal Jewellers, that dream took root in the narrow lanes of Kashipur, Agartala, where he grew up facing tremendous hardship.

Humble Beginnings

Born into a modest family, young Gopal’s early years were filled with challenges. His childhood was marked by struggle, and in his teenage years, he faced severe hardships, even from within his own family. Yet, these early trials only strengthened his resolve. With limited means but limitless determination, he began learning the intricate art of gold jewellery making.

Through perseverance, patience, and a deep sense of honesty, Gopal mastered the craft. His strong belief in God gave him courage and guided him through every obstacle. With faith in divine grace and confidence in hard work, he continued to move forward. His skill and sincerity soon earned him the trust of several leading jewellery houses in Agartala, who began entrusting him with their most important work. Over time, his craftsmanship became known for its purity, precision, and beauty — qualities that would later define his brand.

The Rise of a Master Artisan

For more than five decades, Mr. Gopal Chandra Nag devoted his life to gold jewellery manufacturing. He served as Head Karigar (Chief Artisan) for one of Agartala’s largest jewellery brands for nearly twenty years.

In the early 1980s, with immense experience and a growing reputation, he took a bold step — starting a small 80 sq.ft. silver jewellery shop cum gold jewellery manufacturing unit under the name M/s Swarnakamal, in the Maszid Patti area of Agartala. Even while managing his small business, he continued working as a karigar for the brand he had long served, balancing both with remarkable dedication.

His integrity, fair pricing, and unwavering commitment to quality quickly won the hearts of customers. As word spread, people began standing in queues to have their jewellery crafted by Gopal Chandra Nag himself. By the early 1990s, the growing workload compelled him to leave his job as a karigar and focus entirely on his own venture.

Becoming Tripura’s Silver Powerhouse

Swarnakamal’s silver business grew exponentially through the 1990s. It became Tripura’s largest silver jewellery wholesaler, with clients from across the state and even Assam placing orders for Swarnakamal’s renowned pure silver ornaments. Over time, its beautifully handcrafted silver jewellery and articles found their way to the nearby country also.

In 1993, tragedy struck when Mr. Nag lost his beloved mother. His faith in God and his sense of purpose gave him the strength to endure this loss and continue his journey. Over the years, he became one of the most respected names in Tripura’s jewellery trade — admired for his humility, ethics, spirituality, and authenticity.

The Birth of Swarnakamal Jewellers

Encouraged by loyal customers who wanted a full-fledged jewellery destination, Mr. Gopal Chandra Nag established his first proper showroom in 2001, in the Ghosh Patti area of Agartala. The 200 sq. ft. store, inaugurated on 31st May 2001, was named Swarnakamal Jewellers — symbolizing purity, elegance, and the golden lotus of honesty and devotion.

From the very first day, people fell in love with his designs and the trust he embodied. As demand surged, the store soon expanded into a two-floor showroom, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey.

Since then, Swarnakamal Jewellers has grown into a beloved people’s brand of Tripura & beyond in the Northeast, representing not just jewellery, but a tradition of faith, integrity, and craftsmanship.
