A tribute to Sitar Maestro Kochikar Devdas Pai in memeory of Raghunandan Kamath

On the evening of August 28th, at the 71st GSB Ganesh Utsav, tradition and tribute came together in a moment of quiet significance.

Shri Kochikar Devdas Pai, distinguished sitarist and recipient of both the Sitar Shiromani Puraskar and the Sitarshree Puraskar, also known as the “Icon of Sitar” was felicitated for his lifelong contribution to Indian classical music. The honour was presented by Mr. Srinivas Kamath, Director of Naturals, in the presence of Shri Amit Pai, Chairman of the GSB Seva Mandal.

This gesture was made in loving memory of the late Mr. Raghunandan Kamath, founder of Naturals Ice Cream: a devoted admirer of Shri Pai’s music and a firm believer in the power of sincere, soulful craftsmanship. For Mr. Kamath, Shri Devdas Pai’s artistry embodied the same values he cherished in life and work: purity, depth, and dedication.

Spanning decades and touching audiences across the globe, Shri Devdas Pai’s mastery of the sitar has left an indelible mark on Indian classical music. His nuanced interpretations, intricate command of ragas, and the emotional resonance of his playing have earned him the love of listeners and the respect of his peers.

The felicitation was more than a formal honour. It was also a tribute from one legacy to another. From a founder who found joy and meaning in music, to a maestro whose music continues to inspire.

As the Ganesh Utsav celebrations carried on with devotion and festivity, this moment served as a reminder that great art and great admiration are timeless.
