The latest Covid data made available from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare shows that India has total 7,131 infections across the country as on Friday till 8 am. One fatality was also reported during this period, bringing the cumulative death toll since January 2025 to 78.
The recent rise in cases has been attributed to the emergence of new sub-variants of the Omicron lineage, including JN.1, NB.1.8.1, LF.7, and XFC. These variants are characterized by increased transmissibility but generally cause milder symptoms. The World Health Organization classifies these as "Variants Under Monitoring," underscoring the importance of ongoing surveillance and adherence to public health measures.
