India’s built environment is at an inflection point. Over 70 percent of the buildings that will exist in 2040 are already standing today, which means the future of infrastructure will not be defined by how fast we construct, but by how intelligently we upgrade what already exists. Downtime is not an option in occupied buildings, and retrofits are thereby all the more critical and complex. Upgrading will need to be carefully phased and planned in a manner that minimizes disruptions through zone-by-zone work, off-hours scheduling, and strategic coordination. This allows for essential upgrades and the integration of smart technologies without having to interrupt the building's function or displace its occupants, preserving business continuity while improving infrastructure.
