New Special Edition Cars: redi-GO Limited Edition, Jeep Compass Bedrock, Honda City Edge And More

As expected, these special edition models get added features and cosmetic enhancements over their standard versions

If standing out among a sea of cars scores high on your priority list, then here’s a bunch of special edition cars for you. Although these are not limited in production, they are usually kept in the roster for a limited period. Usually, most manufacturers start doling out special editions at the onset of the festive season and this year’s been no different.

The changes on the special edition cars include updates to their features list, cosmetic updates and sometimes, even colour-coded interiors. However, all of this comes at a price as manufacturers usually charge a premium for the special editions. Here’s a look at some of the special edition models that are on sale currently.

The redi-GO Limited Edition 2018 gets a host of cosmetic upgrades such as roof wrap, body graphics, front and rear bumper undercovers, red inserts on the grille, chrome inserts on the gear and door handles, and floor mats. However, the most important addition is the inclusion of rear parking sensors. The Limited Edition 2018 is offered with both the 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre petrol engine mated to the 5-speed manual gearbox of the redi-GO.

Toyota Etios Liva Dual Tone

The Toyota Etios Liva Dual Tone edition is based on the top VX variant of the hatchback. The special edition hatchback can only be had in white with red accents and a contrasting black roof. On the inside, it gets red touches on the AC vents and gear knob. The biggest addition, however, is the 6.8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit which also acts as a display for the reverse camera. It commands a premium of Rs 21,000 over the standard dual-tone variant of the Liva.

Tata Nexon Kraz

There’s a funkier Nexon. Called the Nexon KRAZ (read craze), it gets various cosmetic enhancements such as dual-tone black-grey paint job and neon green highlights around the front grille and the wheel covers. It even gets neon green-finished ‘KRAZ’ badging at the rear, which also finds a spot on the centre console. It can be had with both the petrol as well as the diesel engine and commands a premium of Rs 24,000 over the XM and the XT variants they are based on.

Honda WR-V Alive Edition

The WR-V has been quite a brisk seller for Honda, with most buyers preferring to opt for the top-spec VX model. Now, in a bid to increase the appeal of the base S variant, Honda has decided to jazz it up with newer features. It receives features such as machine-cut alloy wheels in place of 16-inch steel wheels, new IRVM (inside rearview mirror) with rear camera and rear parking sensors. Changes to the interior include black leatherette upholstery, a steering wheel cover and an ‘Alive’ badge on the boot lid. Buyers also get a one-month free subscription to Honda Connect services. The Alive edition is priced at a premium of Rs 24,000 over the regular base variant.

Honda City Edge Edition

Unlike all the other offerings here, the Honda City Edge edition doesn’t see a hike in its prices. It is based on the sedan’s SV variant and can be had with both the petrol as well as a diesel engine. If you opt for it over the standard sedan, you get features like 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and a reverse parking camera with display on the IRVM. You also get special edition branding and rear parking sensors, which are a miss on all other variants of the City.

Honda BR-V Style

The Style edition of Honda’s compact SUV, the BR-V, doesn’t get any functional additions. Instead, it gets a few cosmetic updates to provide a sense of exclusivity. These include a ‘Special Edition’ emblem, front guard, tailgate spoiler, front and rear bumper protector, and body side moulding. The good news is that it is priced the same as the variants it is based on.

Ford EcoSport Signature Edition

Ford introduced the Signature Edition and the S variant of the Ford EcoSport at the same time a couple of months ago. But unlike the S, which gets an engine swap, the Signature edition just gets added features. Although most of its features are shared with the Titanium variant, it gets valuable additions such as an electric sunroof, front grille with chrome surround, diamond-cut 17-inch alloy wheels, black fog lamp bezels, body graphics, rear spoiler and roof rails. Inside the cabin, it features cosmetic enhancements such as blue stitching on the seats and accents on the centre console and instrument cluster. The price to pay for all this is a steep Rs 86,000 for the petrol variant and Rs 1 lakh for the diesel one. Is it a sensible choice considering the premium?

Jeep Compass Bedrock Edition

Based on the entry-level Sport variant of the Jeep Compass, the Bedrock edition commemorates 25,000 unit sales of the SUV in India. It is priced at Rs 17.53 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), which is Rs 98,000 more expensive than the variant it is based upon. It can only be had with the 2.0-litre diesel engine which churns out 173PS of power and 350Nm of torque. For the added premium, it gets features such as a reverse parking camera, 16-inch gloss black alloy wheels, black roof rails, side step for ingress and floor mats. It also gets ‘Bedrock’ branding on the seat covers, floor mats and boot lid.
