'Rohit Shetty Failed As A Director', Says The Filmmaker As He Opens Up On Ranveer Singh's 'Cirkus' Box Office Debacle

'Cirkus' starring Ranveer Singh was Rohit Shetty's biggest box office dud ever since he started his career in 2003.

Indian filmmaker Rohit Shetty who is known for delivering hits, disappointed moviegoers with 'Cirkus'. The comedy-drama starring Ranveer Singh as the lead was released in theatres around Christmas in 2022. It failed to nett even Rs 50 crore at the Indian box office. It was Rohit's biggest box office dud ever since he started his career in 2003. On 'Koffee With Karan 8', he opened up about the box office debacle of 'Cirkus'.

When host Karan Johar asked Rohit about the ‘rudest thing’ he had ever heard from a film critic, he said, “They have never spoken good about me, they are always rude to me.” When Karan further asked him if ‘films should make you think’, Rohit replied, “Ghanta. Films are to entertain. Nobody remembers the film or the story after a point.”

While talking about the failure of 'Cirkus', Shetty said,  “Rohit Shetty failed as a director.”

“Yes, we went wrong and it was a film made in the pandemic. It was made before Sooryavanshi released. Somewhere me, as a director went wrong with that film. And good it was a small film that I went wrong with, not a big one. Three days later, I was shooting for my web series,” he added.

Rohit and Ranveer are coming together for 'Singham Again'. When the 'Golmaal' director was asked which actor likes to change dialogues during a take, he took Ranveer's name and added, “Because he has been a copywriter, he has this habit, he comes up with new punches. In comedy, he does that''.

Apart from 'Singham Again', Rohit also has 'Indian Police Force', with which he is making his OTT debut. The teaser was released recently. It stars Shilpa Shetty, Vivek Oberoi and Sidharth Malhotra.
