Q
uite like you want to laugh and cry at the movies, you also enjoy getting scared. Problem is that
Phoonk 2 happens to be a horror film in which the chills are a little too hard to come by. In fact, nothing awfully creepy happens till the interval. The film takes off from where
Phoonk left. Manju, who practised black magic on Rajeev’s (Sudeep) family, was killed in the previous film. Here, her ghost comes back to haunt them. There are long, circular scenes aiming to create a sense of fear but get too convoluted and drawn out to hold audience interest. The climax does get bloody, but more ghastly than scary. There are nods to horror films of the past, specially
Child’s Play. In the name of acting, the entire cast has to display just a couple of fixed expressions. And when the characters try to soothe each other’s nerves by saying “Just relax” or “
Sab kuchh theek ho jaayega”, you know that everything possible is going wrong with the film.
