Latticed Windows

A tribute to Old Delhi savours our patched social fabric, and rifts that crimp it in crisis

Neighbourhoods On Screen
  • Notting Hill (1999): The setting for a fairytale romance between a bookshop owner and a Hollywood star, Notting Hill is a bohemian-chic area of London, favoured by the trendy young.
  • Chinatown (1974): LA's Chinatown, with its history of crime and colourful gangs, proved the perfect playground for the tale of corruption and water wars in Roman Polanski's film noir.
  • West Side Story (1961): The Romeo and Juliet retold as a 20th century musical, set in Manhattan's West Side, in the Hell's Kitchen neighbourhood with its heavily Puerto Rican flavour. Actually, only the opening sequence was shot there, the rest on sets in Los Angeles.
  • Brick Lane (2007): Nazneen, a young Bangladeshi woman, arrives in 1980s London for an arranged marriage. Set in Brick Lane, the Bangladeshi community's stronghold in London's East End.
