I Me Aur Main

Things remain utterly dull, uninspiring and don’t get engaging. It’s badly cast — the actors just don’t measure up

Starring: John Abraham, Chitrangada Singh, Prachi Desai, Zarina Wahab, Raima Sen, Mini Kapoor
Director: Kapil Sharma
Rating: **

The title itself is self-explanatory. I Me Aur Main is about a selfish, self-centred brat, Ishaan (John), who eventually learns to face up to the responsibilities of life. The drivers of this change in him are a clutch of interesting women. A bitchy boss (Raima), a successful former girlfriend (Chitrangada) and a neighbour and growing love interest (Prachi). Besides, of course, the mother (Zarina), who lovingly cooks paranthas for him yet wants to take a break from her husband (his dad). And there’s his sister (Mini), who understands him better than he does himself. It appears to be an interesting idea on paper but doesn’t quite come alive on screen. Things remain utterly dull, uninspiring and don’t get engaging. Perhaps because it’s badly cast and the actors just don’t measure up, save veteran Zarina Wahab. Both women get on your nerves. Chitrangada comes up with another affected, self-conscious act. Prachi desperately tries to break out of her goody-goody image, but is more irritating than endearing. In all this, John seems more in control by just being himself. The saving grace is that the film is short, though I wish it were as sweet too. A good shot of spunk and spirit is what it needed.
