Based on Naughty Dog’s award-winning video game, The Last of Us takes place 20 years after modern civilisation has been ravaged. Set in a post-apocalyptic world destroyed by a fungal infection, the story follows Joel (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler hired to escort Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of a Boston quarantine zone. But soon the journey becomes difficult as they fight infected creatures and brutal survivors.
Season 2 picks up five years after the events of the first season. Joel and Ellie face more dangerous and unpredictable crises.
Pascal's character is killed in the last season, and we are not sure if he will appear in the third season. There are speculations that there might be flashbacks in the new season, but the showrunners haven't confirmed anything about his involvement.
The Last of Us was renewed for a third season in 2025, ahead of the release of Season 2.
Season 3 will be an adaptation of the second half of Part II of the video game. It will focus on the story of Abby (played by Kaitlyn Dever).
