Govinda On Satish Kaushik's Famous Pappu Pager Act In ‘Deewana Mastana’: It Was A Huge Hit

Govinda talked about late actor Satish Kaushik's role as ‘Pappu Pager’ in their 1997 film ‘Deewana Mastana’.

Actor-Director Satish Kaushik passed away due to a heart attack in Delhi late on Wednesday. He was 66. Among his many memorable roles, he is fondly remembered for playing the role of 'Calendar' in the 1987 film 'Mr. India' starring Anil Kapoor, and his chemistry with Govinda was the highlight of several comedy films in the 90s and early 2000s.

Govinda and Satish Kaushik starred in several films, like ‘Saajan Chale Sasural’, ‘Deewana Mastana’, ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, ‘Pardesi Babu’, ‘Aunty No. 1’, and ‘Haseena Maan Jaayegi’, among others. Kaushik’s role in ‘Deewana Mastana’ (1997) as Pappu Pager, a contract killer, is one of the best remembered till date.

Speaking to news agency PTI, Govinda spoke about a particular scene featuring his character Bunnu, and Satish Kaushik's Pappu Pager, along with romantic adversary Raja (Anil Kapoor). Recalling the scene, Govinda said, "For ‘Deewana Mastana’, when I went to the set, he had already written (some lines). The scene was a huge hit and is still remembered by fans because we worked on the language of Nagpada (a popular area in South Mumbai), where in every word there is ‘na’. We both jointly worked on that scene. He had written his dialogues and I had also written something."

Govinda, who is in Jaipur, added that he is unable to come terms with the sudden death of his friend, and added, “There are a lot of artists, who work in filmy 'maahul (environment)'. But he was an actor, who would make any character memorable with his sheer hard work. He would dive into that world completely and become like that character. There are so many actors who play such good roles but how many characters become part of history? The characters played by Satish Kaushik are historic, they are remembered even now and will always be.”

Satish is survived by his daughter and wife.
