Genelia D'Souza Reveals Being Asked To Change Name By Filmmakers During Initial Days Of Her Career

Genelia D'Souza revealed that in the initial days of her career, she was advised by producers and directors to change her name.

Actress Genelia D'Souza made her debut in acting with 'Tujhe Meri Kasam' in 2003 opposite Riteish Deshmukh. Post that she appeared in many movies and she was loved for her performances. In an interview, Genelia revealed that in the initial days of her career, she was advised by producers and directors to change her name as they said that 'Genelia' is a difficult name to pronounce. But the 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' actress didn't listen to them.

In an interview with Siddharth Kanan, Genelia said, “When I first came into films, people told me to change my name. I don’t know what they were thinking but they said people will find it difficult (to pronounce) Genelia. But I said that’s my name. Today everyone calls it, so I am glad I didn’t take the suggestion.”

The 'Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya' actress revealed she was asked to change her name to 'Jeena'. 

Genelia got married to Riteish Deshmukh in 2012. Post her marriage, she decided to take a break from acting which made people assume that it was Riteish who made her quit films. In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, she clarified, "But the reason for me to be back today is him. He was like, ‘you are good at your craft, why are you sitting at home’. Even if it wasn’t his film, he kept pushing me to say ‘do your work and this is what you know’.”
