Disha Thakur: The Future Of OTT Is Bright And Exciting

‘Garmi’ actress Disha Thakur speaks up about how she feels excited and happy that she is in the film industry at a time when OTT is booming and garnering immense praise from all corners. She talks about the future of the digital platform in India, and she plans on capitalising on it.

Disha Thakur who was last seen in the web series 'Garmi' is now seen in Amazon Prime Video’s web show 'Main Monica', which has been written and produced by Ranjeet Chitrakaar, Amber Wasi, and Paromita Ganguly. The actress plays the role of Chandni in the project. Being a part of the web universe, Disha feels that it has opened doors for many. OTT, according to her, has been a boon for actors in how much the number of opportunities has increased. She also talks about her character and the story of 'Main Monica'.

“It has been great for the audience too because now there are so many options, so many OTT platforms and so many genres and projects that are released each month. People have a variety to choose from and because of that the overall quality of content is getting better. When the audience is exposed to great shows, lovely stories, and brilliant performances by so many actors with such a range, the creators too are compelled to create better shows with amazing plots. The future of OTT is bright and exciting. I am very blessed to be a part of this wave,” she says.

Excited to play Chandni in Main Monica, Disha hopes it will make way for new opportunities for her. Sharing a memorable incident from the set, she adds there are many but the one that stands out is this particular scene between Chandni and Monica.

“While shooting, there’s always so much noise and chaos, and in the midst of that, you try to do your best. So while we were filming this particular bit, there was music, there was noise but somehow it just had such a great vibe. And, for a moment it didn't feel like we were shooting. It was just so beautiful. Loved working with such lovely actors who bring such great energy on set,” she says.

The thriller genre is catchy and audiences are quite hooked on it. “The roller coaster of madness that these characters go through is super exciting. It’s thrilling and fun. The chemistry between all the characters is great. The story is full of 'what now?' moments, and it's fun to watch how most of them don't learn from their mistakes,” she adds.

About the process, she follows to stay updated as an artist, Disha shares that she watches movies, shows, and different performances. “I am a very visual person, I need to see to learn and that’s what I have been doing since childhood and that's what I believe I would continue to do. I unabashedly love cinema more than anything in this world, and I am very lucky to be a part of this industry,” she says.

The feedback around Main Monica has been good. “People are surprised at the accent I have in the show, some of them actually believe I speak Marathi. I find it very rewarding that people are loving Chandni. My family loved the show, and I have many of them (including my extended family) calling and congratulating me. All of it is so sweet and heart-warming. One of my aunts called me and said I loved how you said ‘halkat’. Other people who saw it really liked the show and found it fun and engaging. And now, I am getting messages and calls wherein so many have asked about the next season. Such messages really make my day and make you believe that you did something right with the role,” she smiles.

So what’s her dream role? “This is a tricky question because I'm always excited to work with great producers and writers and actors, so to pick one isn't fair. But there are some roles that I have loved a lot and would love to play in a heartbeat. My all-time favourites are Holly Golightly from 'Breakfast At Tiffany’s, and Joy Mangano from 'Joy', loved both these movies too,” she ends.
