Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit, after a disagreement over professional terms—especially over her eight-hour shift demand has sparked conversations around work-life balance in the film industry. Several celebs including Kajol, Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Mani Ratnam, Kabir Khan and Vikrant Massey, among others backed Deepika's demand for eight-hour workday. Now filmmaker Anurag Basu has weighed in on the topic. Here's what he has said.

Sharing his thoughts on Deepika's eight-hour workday demand, Anurag Basu, in an interview with Firstpost, said he doesn't like long-hour shifts, and his actors never complain about long hours or stress at work. "So, I absolutely agree with what Deepika Padukone had to say. It’s a film; I never give my actors a chance to complain about this," he added.

He also opened up about his style of working. The filmmaker said he wants his actors to be very happy on set and know their character well. He revealed of not giving too much information to them before the shoot begins. "Let them discover their roles, and this is the method I have been following for ages," he said further.

Deepika, who was initially supposed to star as the female lead in Vanga's Spirit, opposite Prabhas, reportedly walked out of the film because her demands were not met. She allegedly asked for 8-hour workday, a whopping Rs 20 crore fee, profits share, and also refused to deliver dialogues in Telugu.

After Deepika's exit, Triptii Dimri came on board to play the female lead in Spirit.

Anurag Basu's latest directorial is Metro...In Dino, the spiritual sequel to his 2007 film, Life in a... Metro.

Metro...In Dino stars Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, and Fatima Sana Shaikh.

His upcoming project is an untitled romantic film, with Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela, which will complete soon. He is also working on a biopic of Kishore Kumar.
