Colombia Guest of Honor at Annecy 2027 marks a landmark moment for the country's animation industry. The honour gives Colombian creators, studios and producers a prominent international platform while strengthening opportunities for worldwide collaborations and distribution.

Annecy 2027 recognition puts Colombian animation on the global stage

Annecy and MIFA attract more than 18,000 accredited professionals from nearly 120 countries each year, making the festival one of the animation industry's most influential gatherings. As Guest Country of Honor, Colombia will receive enhanced visibility across the festival's artistic and business programmes, allowing its animation ecosystem to showcase talent, innovation and production capabilities to international buyers and partners.

The recognition also highlights the steady rise of Colombian animation, with studios including Dinamita Animación, Piragna, Hierro Animación, Lucy Animation Studio, Veinte Once and Malpraxis Studio expected to gain increased international exposure.

Bogotá's animation sector continues expanding globally

The recognition also strengthens Bogotá's ambitions of becoming one of Latin America's leading animation hubs. One of the flagship projects expected to receive international attention is Bogotá, A City of Many Worlds, an animated anthology series developed through the city's Gente Convergente programme.

Deputy Secretary for Governance Ana María Boada said the initiative reflected years of investment in helping creators export their work internationally. It was stated by Boada that preparations had begun more than two years earlier to help animation studios reach global markets.

The city's broader strategy includes participation in major international events such as Pixelatl, Gamescom, Venice and Geneva while offering mentoring programmes with industry leaders including Gobelins and BC Media Lab.

The anthology series is scheduled to premiere during Annecy 2027, where Colombia will officially take centre stage as the festival's Guest Country of Honor.
