Powering India’s Next Growth Story: Energy For A New Bharat – Vivek Abrol

As India accelerates its clean energy transition, Vivek Abrol believes intelligent, consumer-centric energy solutions will play a critical role in powering the nation’s next phase of growth.

As India moves steadily towards its aspiration of becoming a developed economy, the future of its energy sector will depend not merely on generating more electricity but on building an intelligent, resilient, and sustainable energy ecosystem, says Vivek Abrol, MD & CEO of Luminous Power Technologies.

Having assumed leadership of the company earlier this year, Abrol is guiding Luminous’ next phase of growth, building on its strong legacy as one of India’s most trusted consumer brands in power backup while expanding its presence across solar, energy storage, and smart energy solutions. He believes dependable energy has become as critical to India’s growth story as physical infrastructure, manufacturing, and digital connectivity. As industries expand and households increasingly rely on uninterrupted power, India’s energy priorities must shift towards affordable, decentralised, and technology-enabled solutions.

Leveraging over three decades of expertise in inverters and batteries, Luminous has broadened its portfolio to include rooftop solar systems, advanced energy storage, smart energy management solutions, and connected technologies that enable consumers to monitor, manage, and optimise energy consumption.

The company’s clean energy journey gained momentum with the commissioning of its solar panel manufacturing facility in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, in 2024, strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities and supporting India’s renewable energy ecosystem. Building on this foundation, Luminous is now developing two major manufacturing facilities in Odisha. The first, at Gopalpur, is a solar cell manufacturing plant aimed at strengthening India’s solar value chain and reducing dependence on imports. The second, at Angul, is an advanced energy storage manufacturing facility focused on next-generation battery technologies that will support renewable energy integration at scale.

Abrol sees these investments as closely aligned with India’s vision of becoming self-reliant in clean energy manufacturing while accelerating renewable energy adoption. According to him, energy security and sustainability must advance together if India is to achieve its long-term economic and climate goals.

He also points to a fundamental shift in consumer behaviour, with households and businesses increasingly seeking greater control over how they generate, store, and consume electricity. Rooftop solar coupled with battery storage represents one of India’s most significant opportunities to expand access to clean, reliable, and affordable power while reducing dependence on conventional energy sources. As decentralised energy systems gain momentum, technology will be a key enabler of this transformation. Through initiatives such as Connect X, Luminous is driving conversations around the future of energy, innovation, and digitalisation, while leveraging smart monitoring systems, connected devices, predictive maintenance, and AI-enabled solutions to enhance efficiency, optimise energy usage, and improve energy resilience.

Innovation remains central to Luminous’ growth strategy. The company continues to invest in research and development, focusing on products designed for Indian conditions with a strong emphasis on quality, affordability, and reliability.

For Abrol, the opportunity extends far beyond powering homes and businesses. India’s energy transition is about empowering aspirations, enhancing energy independence, strengthening energy security, and building the foundation for a more resilient and sustainable New Bharat.
