Amaravati, October 29: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to accelerate relief and restoration operations in areas affected by Cyclone Arnab, with particular emphasis on restoring electricity, expediting compensation and ensuring that essential services return to normal.

During a teleconference with district collectors and officials from various departments on Thursday, the Chief Minister instructed the administration to continue relief and restoration work until normalcy is fully restored in the affected areas.

“Officials should restore electricity supply in all cyclone-affected areas and expedite compensation for those affected while continuing relief and restoration work until normalcy returns,” Naidu said, according to an official press release.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that a preliminary report on the damage caused by the cyclone would be submitted on Thursday.

Naidu directed authorities to speed up damage assessments and provide financial assistance to affected people. Crop-loss compensation will be handled separately, as the government has already issued a specific order covering assistance for agricultural losses.

Focus On Farmers And Restoration Of Infrastructure

The Chief Minister acknowledged the efforts of the state administration in responding to the cyclone and stressed that effective planning, coordination and timely assistance were essential to supporting people affected by natural disasters.

He pointed out that different regions of Andhra Pradesh were confronting distinct agricultural challenges. While Rayalaseema is experiencing difficulties associated with El Niño and unfavourable conditions for sowing, farmers in North Andhra, coastal districts and the Godavari River region have suffered damage to standing crops and coconut trees following the cyclone.

Naidu instructed officials to immediately clear fallen trees and debris from roads to restore connectivity. He also called for precautionary measures to prevent breaches in irrigation tanks and canals, which could aggravate the impact of heavy rainfall.

Agriculture officials, scientists and students have been asked to assess the condition of waterlogged crops and determine which can still be saved through appropriate interventions. The objective is to minimise further losses and help farmers recover from the damage.

The Chief Minister also directed officials to examine the feasibility of replanting uprooted coconut trees and other horticultural crops. Suitable government schemes should be implemented to provide assistance to affected farmers.

Technology To Speed Up Damage Assessment

Emphasising the need for timely and accurate assessments, Naidu called for the use of technology to accelerate the process of documenting crop damage and delivering relief.

Officials have been instructed to ensure that assistance reaches eligible beneficiaries without unnecessary delays. The administration must maintain close coordination across departments and continue supporting affected communities until normal conditions are restored.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of keeping the public informed about relief and restoration measures, noting that clear communication would help secure public cooperation during the recovery process.

The state government is continuing its efforts to restore essential services, assess losses and provide timely support to communities affected by Cyclone Arnab.
