While strolling around the streets of Amsterdam, have the Dutch classic raw herring, served with onions and pickles. If the herring seems like a daunting proposition have another Dutch delight, the Kebbling – deep fried morsels of white fish served with mayonnaise herb sauce and lemon.

If you wish to explore the capital in depth, the highly recommended Royal Palace of Amsterdam has to be on your list. The palace is embellished with symbols of Dutch 17th century commerce and interests. Close by is the Dam Square which is home to the National Monument to commemorate the casualties of WWII.

Getting There: There are several airline which offer direct flights to Amsterdam from Delhi. Try Jet Airways and KLM Royal Dutch, both of which offer overnight flights. If you are planning a short visit, you need to apply for a Schengen Visa. The Netherlands belongs to the group of 26 countries forming the Schengen Area which has no border control between them.
