With the opening of the Hindon airbase located in Ghaziabad later this month, the UDAN scheme’s ‘letting the common citizen of the country fly’ line will become a reality for many commuters who wish to fly to places like Shimla, Jamnagar, Kannur, Nashik, Pithoragarh, etc.
Located about 30 kilometres from the Indira Gandhi International Airport, the Hindon airbase is expected to lift a huge weight off the shoulders of IGIA's Terminal 3 (T3), which is overburdened with traffic. The new airbase in Ghaziabad is spread over 5,000 sq m and will be able to handle aircrafts which carry less than 80 passengers. As per reports, the airport will have eight check-in counters, two arrival carousels and a small car parking area.
The airbase is slated to start operations at the end of April.
