Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has acknowledged for the first time—at a meeting with a UN envoy—that over 20,000 people who had been missing during the bloody endgame of the country’s civil war in 2009 are dead. Hundreds of Lankans had been holding rallies and vigils to find out about their missing loved ones.
