Indian cricket has had a stunning affair with change in the past few months. Greg Chappell was installed as Team India's new coach in May. Rahul Dravid was anointed captain of the Test squad after taking over responsibility for the limited-overs side a few weeks ago. The players have exuded a more positive attitude, winning eight of the 11 ODIs against Sri Lanka and South Africa. And now, despite much resistance, Sharad Pawar and his team have taken over the administrative reins of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

But is there a magic wand Pawar can wave to dispel the deeper problems that beset Indian cricket? When will he expound on his broad vision? "We'll wait till the first meeting of the working committee to crystallise our approach to revitalising Indian cricket," BCCI vice-president Lalit Modi says, indicating that the primary task the group has set itself was to break the vice-like grip Jagmohan Dalmiya exerted till now on the BCCI.

To a person, Indians believe the BCCI must get professional and transparent. So it's expected that the board will soon...
