It may well be the mother of all government recruitments. The Babulal Gaur regime has decided to appoint 50,000 schoolteachers in one go. Coming, as it does, in the wake of a decade-long ban on fresh appointments, there’s a wave of excitement among the vast army of unemployed graduates et al. The teachers will get between Rs 2,500-5,000 per month, depending on grade. Serpentine queues were seen even at the application forms counters for the recruitment test. (Fresh forms were printed as the supply got exhausted.) When figures last came in, more than 10 lakh forms had been sold and the state was richer by Rs 20 crore. Guides for the test have flooded the markets. The touts won’t be far behind.
