A former Bollywood starlet is doing more for Vedic astrology than even Murli Manohar Joshi. Hence Komilla Sutton’s Vedic Love Signs. And her unoriginal formula: combining the ancient pseudo-science with the modern hunt to find and keep your mate. It’s a fusion astrology of sorts, adding 15 more signs to the well-known 12, but giving it a modern twist to suit the tastes of her western readers. Love at first sight, according to the author (co-founder of the British Association for Vedic Astrology and on the board of the American Council of Vedic Astrology), is not about pheromones. "When we meet the soul of loved ones from the past," says Komilla Sutton, sounding like one of our godmen, "there is an instant connection. The soul remembers." The fuzzy logic and exotic words like "relationship karma" and "karmic ties" are laced with some mpressive "compatibility" charts that tell you to the last per cent what you don’t need to know: how good or bad your sex life is. As for what to do when you discover that your sex—and soul—life stinks, Sutton falls back on the wise old Hindu sages: lump it. It’s your karma.
