An estimated Rs 250 crore was pumped into the games, which for Naidu is more than just a sporting extravaganza. He believes this will be a major milestone in his plan to transform Hyderabad into the most happening city in the country. His latest dream is that Hyderabad hosts the Olympics once.
However, once the games draw to a close, Andhra Pradesh will be left with the unenviable job of spending lakhs of rupees every month to maintain all the state-of-the-art sporting facilities specially acquired for the games. Officials, however, claim they are hoping the facilities will encourage several top athletes to trans-locate to the state and use it to train themselves to beat the best in the world.
