Fresh from its victory in the Gujarat elections and encouraged by infighting within the BJD, the state bjp has been more than flexing its muscle. Aggressive posturing by local BJP leaders, open criticism of its alliance partner’s functioning and rallies designed as a show of strength cumulatively give the impression that the BJP is keen to push CM Naveen Patnaik into a corner.

Recently, in an open letter to Patnaik, 27 BJP MLAs expressed their displeasure about the way in which the administration was being run. Their target was a retired bureaucrat and former chief secretary close to Patnaik.

Clearly, all is not well within the BJD, and the BJP is waiting for its alliance partner to crumble and collapse under the weight of its own contradictions.
