Gentlemen, Decision Is Yours

Theatre aficionados from the city of pearls have three packed days at the Theatre Fest. The God of Carnage, directed by Nadir Khan, starts off on the schoolboy premise of two kids fighting in the park, with one suffering an injury. Their parents hastily intervene—after all, they are just concerned about their wards. Not quite. Another offering, inspired by Hollywood’s 12 Angry Men, is 12 Angry Jurors, also by Khan, which shows an 18-year-old boy on trial for murdering his own father. The evidence is stacked against him, but a lone juror looks at the case in a different light and forces the rest to re-evaluate what they know while introspecting on how their perceptions cloud their judgement. Veritably, all that is needed is a fresh pair of eyes. And finally, there is Satyadeb Dubey’s Dear Liar, which takes a light-hearted look at the correspondence exchanged between George Bernard Shaw and the famous stage actress, Mrs Patrick Campbell, and explores an intriguing relationship. Ravindra Bharathi, Aug 19-21
