The Kerala government has decided to withdraw the amendment to the Kerala Police Act following public outrage as it enabled stringent punishment for publication of material deemed to be defamatory. Opposition parties and even Left sympathisers had called out the amendment, saying it was against freedom of speech and media.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved, in principle, a law on chemical castration of rapists.
