Abdul Rashid Kabli (Srinagar)

An Independent, who is fighting on the BJP symbol from Srinagar, he sings paeans to Vajpayee: "He will ensure we get justice and that Article 370 will stay if the Kashmiris want it."

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi (Rampur)

One of the few Muslims who participated in the Ram Janambhoomi movement, he is touted as the RSS ideal of what a Muslim should be. Candidate from Rampur, he joined the BJP in 1984.

Deen Mohammad Cheeta (Baramulla)

Alleged to have been the head of a group of counterinsurgents promoted by intelligence agencies, he joined the party recently and has been nominated from Baramulla.

Muzaffar Khan (Malda)

He joined the BJP in 1990 from the Congress. His commitment to the BJP's "positive secularism" has endeared him to the party. He is taking on Ghani Khan Choudhury in Malda.

Jaffer Ali Khan (Nandyal)

Another recent entrant, he says he signed up because "Vajpayee is the prime ministerial candidate". Contesting from Nandyal, he feels only Vajpayee will give Muslims a fair deal.

Shahnawaz Hussain (Kishenganj)

National secretary of the BJP's youth wing, he has been fielded from Kishenganj. Close to Advani and Uma Bharti, he has been asking for Muslim votes in Vajpayee's name.
