Naidu contracted the privatisation plan to the UK government, which in turn gave it to Adam Smith International.
What did they do?
Adam Smith International, with another body set up by Naidu, shut many state-run institutions linked to agriculture.
How were the farmers affected?
Earlier, in times of crises, they turned to these institutions for help. Without them a crisis of debt spiralled into a crisis of large-scale suicides.
