Early morning commuters in Lutyens’ Delhi on Sunday were startled to find several road signs named after Mughal emperors tarred in black. Aurangzeb Road, in close proximity to the Akbar, Humayun and Shahjahan roads, bore the brunt of it but within hours the New Delhi Municipal Corporation had swung into action, pressing an unprecedented number of people to restore the defaced signs before the TV cameras could arrive.
