Haryana
Expensive Arrest

The BJP government in Haryana and the union territory of Chandigarh have created a record of sorts by claiming that they incurred an expenditure of Rs 26 crore (in a matter of less than 10 days) to arrest the dubious godman Sant Rampal and to make security arrangements to maintain law and order. An expense of even Rs 1,000 per day on each of the estimated 10,000 uniformed men deployed for the purpose would, however, have amounted to just Rs 10 crore in 10 days. Eyebrows are going up in arcs but no questions are being asked as yet.
